Playlist / Driving Through The Desert
So on Fridays I will create a playlist for different situations that I've experienced or hope to experience. I've oftentimes wished that I could have a huge speaker follow me around and play music that corresponds to the way I feel or to what I am doing. It would play Sam Cooke if I was having people over for supper or it would play Sigur Ros if I was taking a nap on the porch or it would play Iron & Wine if I was sitting around a firepit in my backyard with people I love. Since I don't have that speaker, this is the next best thing.
I've driven across the country from Georgia to California a couple of times and there is something about that stretch through the desert that makes you feel more free. The sky is a little bigger and things seem a little more possible somehow. It's a little lonely and a little haunting, but hopeful at the same time. There's a repetitive movement to it that's almost comforting. Like you are leaving and arriving at the same time. If you're with people, conversations are a little easier, and if you're alone, thoughts are a little clearer.
That speaker would be playing these songs if I was driving through the desert.
Gentle Folks - Hunter Hunted
She Lit A Fire - Lord Huron

New York - The Boxer Rebellion
When My Time Comes - Dawes
All I Want - Kodaline

The picture above is from a trip my brother and I took to Israel and Jordan. It was taken in Wadi Rum during the most epic sunset I've seen.
